Addressing the Coronavirus Outbreak

To learn how TMS2020 will be impacted by the recent coronavirus outbreak and how the Society is addressing the situation, read this letter to TMS2020 attendees from James J. Robinson, TMS Executive Director.

CDC Guidelines

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) offer the following guidelines to help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
  • If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty.
We would also add that it is not necessary to shake hands when greeting colleagues; a verbal greeting is perfectly acceptable.
