Brush up on your communications skills! In this workshop, you'll learn how to communicate your research topic to others in an engaging manner and how to deliver an effective PowerPoint presentation. Gain tips to help enhance your skills in the following two areas: targeted communication and PowerPoint presentations.

Part One: Targeted Communication Skills

Presenter: Eric Theisen, Director of Research and Development, Metglas Inc.
Learn how to synthesize your research or topic and deliver it concisely. In this portion of the program, you’ll learn how to communicate the following points:

  • What It Is: Describe your work in terms that an audience will understand.
  • Why It’s Important: Communicate the impact of your research to your listeners.
  • How It Can Be Used: Let your audience know why they should pay attention to your research and how they can respond to it.

Part Two: PowerPoint Presentations that Deliver

Presenter: Michael Bakas, Synthesis and Processing of Materials Program Manager, Army Research Office 
Learn how to construct a standout PowerPoint presentation. This portion of the program will offer techniques to use—and avoid—to help you present your message and engage your audience effectively. You’ll also receive tips for delivering your oral presentation.

Part Three: Wrap Up

This session will end with a general discussion about what you learned and how you can apply these tips in the future.
