TMS Continuing Education Home
TMS is dedicated to encouraging the lifelong education of materials science and engineering professionals through registration and certification, short courses, workshops and tutorials, meeting symposia, and other continuing education activities.
Professional Engineering Registration
As the professional society for scientists and engineers in the minerals, metals and materials fields, TMS supports the licensure of professional engineers and endorses the necessary standards for education, experience, examination, and continuing professional development.
The Professional Engineering exam is used to determine those candidates who are minimally competent for professional registration. "Minimum competence," as measured by the examination components of the licensing process, is the lowest level of knowledge at which a person can practice professional engineering in such a manner that will safeguard life, health and property and promote the public welfare. TMS webcasts are recorded presentations that provide timely technical updates as well as educational materials. They feature technical content presented with visuals and audio. Often the webcasts include videos and models for a multifaceted learning experience. TMS Web events make authoritative research, technical applications and novel solutions available to you without leaving your home or office. [LEARN MORE]
TMS is a “participating body” of the ABET in the United States. TMS has curricular responsibility for university programs in metallurgical, materials and other engineering programs, including those in polymers, welding engineering, and welding technology.
TMS appoints representatives to the ABET Board and its commissions, and appoints members to serve on accreditation teams to visit the programs for which TMS has curricular responsibility or shares responsibility with another participating society. Qualified volunteer program evaluators are always in demand, particularly those employed in industry, women and minorities. [LEARN MORE]
