Through a grant from the Dr. Om Arora family, the TMS Foundation has established the Shri Ram Arora International Award for Materials Science and Engineering Education as a means of perpetuating their father's quest for continual learning and academic challenge. The award recognizes, encourages, and supports the quest for knowledge with the international materials science and engineering community.
Madurai S. Bharathi
Biography: Madurai Bharathi has been a student at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, expecting to receive her Ph.D. in Materials Science late in 2002.
Mrs. Bharathi’s current areas of research include modeling and analysis of dynamic phenomena in materials science, nonlinear dissipative dynamical systems, chaos and fractals, and application of concepts of nonlinear dynamics in interdisciplinary areas of research. She is now involved in modeling instabilities in plastic flow using mechanisms of dislocation dynamics.

Anish Upadhyaya
Biography: Anish Upadhyaya is an assistant professor and in-charge of the P/M Lab, Department of Materials & Metallurgical Engineering at the Indian Institue of Technology, Kanpur. Dr. Upadhyaya earned his Ph.D. at the Pennsylvania State University in 1998. Dr. Upadhyaya has studied materials processing of varied nonferrous systems, metal-metal composites, and metal-ceramic composites. His research specialization is powder metallurgy processing of materials, and current research includes transient and supersolidus sintering of premixed and prealloyed bronze.
Dr. Upadhyaya has been a research consultant for several companies. Recently, he was visiting faculty at the Institute for Nano-Technology, Karlsruhe & Materials Research Laboratory, Pennsylvania State University as a part of a collaborative research program.
