The Nonferrous Metals Society of China (NFSoc) is a technological organization of scientists and technologists engaged in the nonferrous metals industry. The Society is a constituent member of the China Association for Science and Technology and is mainly supported by the China National Nonferrous Metals Corporation.

PURPOSE AND ACTIVITIES

The primary objective of the Society is to promote the development and application and technology in all areas of the nonferrous metals industry. The Society accomplishes this objective by conducting scientific and technological conferences, publishing books and periodicals, supporting research and development activities, providing consultation services, offering continuing education programs, and by representing demands and interests of members

MEMBERSHIP

The Society has a membership of more than 37,000 professionals, most of whom meet the qualifications equal to or above an engineer or its equivalent in the nonferrous metals industry.

COUNCIL

The Third Council of the Society comprises 148 members, including 57 standing members. The principal staff of the council as of 1995 is as follows:

Local branches of the Society and region nonferrous metals societies have been established in fifteen provinces, regions, and cities in China. These nonferrous societies are Fujian, Gansu, Guangdong, Guangxi, Guishou, Hunan, Jiangxi, Lianonin, Shaanxi, Shanghai, Shanxi, Shenzhen, Sichuan, Xinjiang, and Yunnan.

Additionally, there are 20 technical committees that the Society operates, Computer Applications, Environmental Protection, Geology, Heavy Metals Metallurgy, Industrial Economics and Management, Industrial Safety, Industrial Statistics, Information Science, Light Metals Metallurgy, Materials Science and Engineering, Metal Fabrication, Metallurgical Equipment, Mining, Mineral Processing, Physical and Chemical Analysis, Physiochemistry, Powder Metallurgy and Fine Ceramics, Rare Metals, Metallurgy Semiconductive Materials, and Young Scientists and Engineers

PUBLICATIONS

The major magazines published by the Society are as follows:

• Transactions of Nonferrous Metals Society of China-- This magazine is published quarterly, and Chinese and English versions are available.
• Nonferrous Metals-- This magazine is published quarterly, and a Chinese version with English abstracts is available.
• Rare Metals-- This magazine is published quarterly, and Chinese and English versions are available.
