The 1st TMS Summit on Integrated Manufacturing and Materials Innovations
November 15-18, 2015 ● Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA

View the Schedule at a Glance for a list of daily conference activities.

Manufacturing has been dramatically enriched by advances in computational modeling, process control hardware & software, new materials discovery, new types of equipment, and the reapplication of both established and emergent processes. The opportunities afforded by synthesis of these elements are unprecedented.

Specifically, this summit will provide a forum for presentations and discussions on materials-related manufacturing topics including:

  • Materials innovations enabled by digital manufacturing
  • Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME) as applied to advances in manufacturing
  • Hybrid manufacturing processes (e.g, which combine additive, subtractive, and forming processes)
  • Modeling and simulation of complex manufacturing systems
  • Sustainable materials and sustainable manufacturing
  • Nano-materials and manufacturing (e.g., retaining materials properties and characteristics during scale-up)
  • Materials issues in process control: including image analysis, digital data, and sensors
  • Data science methods as applied to alloy design and materials-related manufacturing decisions
  • Globalization of supply chain and influence of sourcing on manufacturability
  • Additive manufacturing: alloy development and microstructural control
  • Integration of materials processing and product design
  • Environmental and safety issues in new materials and manufacturing processes
The summit will provide an intimate environment for rich discussions to assess the state-of-the-art in materials-related aspects of manufacturing. It will also define technological and economic limitations and barriers to implementation, and roadmap key areas of future development in the field. It will also serve as an opportunity for members of manufacturing institutes and consortia to report out and coordinate on key issues centered about materials innovations.

The objective of this summit is to bring together engineers, scientists, leaders, and policymakers from industry, academia, and government to discuss critical issues associated with the integration of materials and manufacturing innovations.

INVITED SPEAKERS
  • John Allison, University of Michigan
  • David Britten, United States Steel Corporation
  • Susan Helper, Case Western Reserve University
  • Elizabeth Hetrick, Ford Motor Company
  • Ed Herderick, GE Corporate
  • Mark Johnson, U.S. Department of Energy
