TMS 2005 comprises not only techical programming, an industrial exhibition, student activities, technical and administrative committee meetings, multiple receptions and hospitality suites, short courses, plant tours and excursions, and networking opportunities aplenty, but it will house a number of other special events. This year's roster includes the following (check the Calendar of Events for times and locations, and click the links for additional event details):

  • Luncheons and Dinners: No fewer than four luncheons and six dinners are planned for the meeting week. The headliner is the 134th TMS-AIME Dinner and Awards Presentation, where the majority of the society's honors and award recipients will be recognized and the next president of the society will be introduced.
  • Bestowment of Honors and Awards: Throughout the week, a number of society- and division-level awards will be presented to distinguished members of the global materials science and engineering community. Many of this awards will be presented during the society's Honors and Awards dinner.
  • TMS Foundation Golf Club Raffle: The TMS Foundation is be sponsoring a drawing for a set of Calloway Big Bertha Titanium Woods, Callaway X-16 Pro-Series Irons, and a Callaway Big Bertha cart bag. Meeting attendees are also eligible for a $500 cash prize bonus.
  • Lead-free Technology Workshop: This free, one-day workshop will include a current state-of-the-art review of Pb-free solder technology. It will consider the key challenges facing Pb-free technology for future needs in electronic packaging and assembly. Pre-registration for this workshop is not required.
