During the week of February 28-March 4, 1999, the 128th Annual Meeting & Exhibition of The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS) will be held in San Diego, California at the San Diego Convention Center.

LOCATION

The San Diego Marriott Hotel & Marina will be the headquarters for the event. Technical sessions, registration, and the exhibition will take place next door to the hotel at the San Diego Convention Center.

REGISTRATION

The deadline for advance registration through this site has passed.

At Meeting Registration: Registration will be held in the San Diego Convention Center during the following hours:

Attention Authors: All authors must register for the meeting. Nonmember authors may register at the nonmember author rate. Badges are required for admission to all technical sessions, the exhibition, and social functions.

Advance Registrant Packet Pick Up: Advance registrants should pick up their registration packets at the San Diego Convention Center during the registration hours listed above. Full payment of registration fees and social function tickets must accompany the completed form. For further information regarding advance registration, please contact:

POLICIES

Nonmember Registrants Only
If you attend the 128th TMS Annual Meeting and register at the nonmember fee, you will automatically receive a one-year complimentary introductory associate membership for 1999. Associate members receive all of the same benefits as members, including a subscription to JOM, discounts on TMS publications and meeting fees, inclusion in, and access to, the TMS Membership Directory on TMS OnLine via the World Wide Web, plus an array of other personalized membership benefits and services.

Your membership card and new member packet, along with a postal card asking for additional vital information for our records, such as date of birth, education, and work experience, will be sent to you immediately after the meeting. Your associate membership will be activated upon completion of your registration form and payment of the nonmember meeting registration fee. Advance registrants: Your 1999 TMS membership will be processed immediately upon receiving your registration payment. At the meeting, stop by the TMS Membership Desk to receive your free gift and enter our grand prize drawing.

On-site registrants: Proceed directly to the nonmember only registration area, where your form will be processed quickly. Receive your new member sticker on the spot; then stop by the TMS Membership Desk to receive your free gift and enter our grand prize drawing.

Refund Policy: Written requests for refunds must be sent to TMS Customer Service, 184 Thorn Hill Road, Warrendale, PA 15086-7528. No refunds will be issued after February 26,1999. A $50 processing fee will be charged on all cancellations.

Americans with Disabilities Act: TMS strongly supports the federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) which prohibits discrimination against, and promotes public accessibility for those with disabilities. In support of and compliance with this Act, we ask that those requiring specific equipment or services as an attendee of the 1999 TMS Annual Meeting & Exhibition contact the TMS Meeting Services Department and advise of any specific requirements in advance.

Audio/Video Recording Policy: TMS reserves the rights to any audio and video reproduction of all presentations at every TMS-sponsored meeting. Recording of sessions (audio, video, still-photography, etc.) intended for personal use, distribution, publication, or copyright without the express written consent of TMS and the individual authors is strictly prohibited. Contact the TMS Technical Programming Department to obtain a copy of the waiver release form.

HOUSING ACCOMMODATIONS

The TMS headquarters hotel will be the San Diego Marriott Hotel & Marina. Special conference rates have been contracted for annual meeting attendees. However, the deadline to advance register for housing through this site has expired.

Cancellations/changes before January 25, 1999 must be made in writing to the Housing Bureau; after January 25, 1999, directly to the hotel. Do not send cancellations to TMS.

Student Housing: Triple and quadruple room rates are offered at participating hotels while available.

FREE HOTEL SHUTTLE SERVICE

TMS is providing free shuttle service between participating downtown hotels and the San Diego Convention Center. Two routes will operate at different schedules during peak and off-peak times. If you are staying at a participating hotel while attending the meeting, please consult with hotel staff for TMS shuttle service hours and routes.

GUEST HOSPITALITY

A special guest hospitality area will be hosted each day of the meeting from 8:30a.m.-10:00 a.m. in the San Diego Convention Center. TMS will sponsor a continental breakfast for the convenience of spouses and accompanying persons of meeting attendees. The Guest Hospitality Room will be a good place to meet, socialize, and gather for tour departure. In addition, local highlights, shopping information, transportation schedules, and dining details will be available.

To register an accompanying person, please provide your guest's name when you register to attend the meeting. They will receive a complimentary badge identifying them as a Conference Guest, which will allow admission to the TMS Exhibit and Reception and the Guest Hospitality Room.

Note: The conference guest badge is intended for spouses and accompanying persons of registered attendees for identification only. It does not permit access to technical presentations.

EMPLOYMENT REFERRAL BOARD

An employment referral board will be located in the TMS membership area where attendees may leave their resumes, and employers may post job openings. Also look for the tabletop display promoting the TMS Resume Link service. Information and resume forms are available with the display.

CONFERENCE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM DEMO

At a special workshop on Tuesday, March 2, TMS will demonstrate its Conference Management System and review editors' responsibilities. This presentation will familiarize organizers with the direct electronic submission of abstracts and the organization of symposia via the TMS OnLine. All organizers of present and future symposia, as well as technical committee members, are strongly encouraged to attend.

TMS Document Center DEMO

We have set up a special hands-on demonstration of the TMS Document Center, in the Publication Sales Area at the convention center to allow you to access and actually utilize this internet-based service.

You can use the TMS Document Center to preview TMS publications, acquire books, purchase articles in portable document format (PDF), or subscribe to TMS journals, including electronic versions of JOM and the Journal of Electronic Materials. In fact, if the lines are long at the publication sales desk, you could use the TMS Document Center system to purchase a book and have it delivered to your desk back home using our secure order form.

A TMS staff person will be available during the Publication Sales Area hours to help you with accessing and navigating through the TMS Document Center.

PUBLICATION SALES AREA

While attending the annual meeting, be sure to stop by the TMS Publications Sales area in the San Diego Convention Center. There you will be able to examine and select from more than 150 proceedings volumes, textbooks, monographs, CD-ROMs, and concurrent publications from the 1999 TMS Annual Meeting, many at specially reduced prices. Visit the concurrent publications page for information on these volumes.

Distribution of Authors' Complimentary Copies: Distribution of concurrent complimentary copies to primary authors will only be done on-site. Primary authors will receive a ticket with the authors' mailing that may be exchanged at the TMS Publications Sales area of the convention center for their complimentary copy. Arrangements to ship books must be made at the meeting and the standard shipping fees paid. TMS will accept no responsibility to provide complimentary copies after the conference, nor will TMS absorb shipping costs to distribute same.

AUTHORS' INFORMATION

Authors' Coffee: Authors are requested to attend the Authors' Coffee on the morning of their presentation only. Organizers will be available to discuss and review the day's schedule. Authors' Coffee will be held 7:15a.m.-8:15a.m., Monday through Thursday in Room 6A, Upper Level of the convention center.

Audio and Visual Headquarters and Slide Preview Area: Authors are invited to preview their slides before their technical presentation. Slide preview will be availbale in Room 6A, Upper Level of the convention center. Hours are from 7:15a.m.-5:00p.m. Monday through Wednesday and 7:15a.m.-11:a.m. on Thursday.

POSTER SESSION

A poster session will be held in conjunction with the meeting. Presentations will be displayed on 4' x 8' poster boards; no formal presentation is required. The poster session will begin Monday, March 1, 8:30a.m., and remain in place through Wednesday, March 3, 5:p.m.

BUSINESS SERVICES CENTER

Mail Boxes, etc. will provide exclusive business services for all 1999 TMS Annual Meeting & Exhibition attendees. The center will be open Monday, March 1, through Thursday, March 4, during registration hours, and will have someone available to help you with the following services:

DINING SERVICE

Where shall we dine? Where shall we go for entertainment? Where shall we go to shop, relax, or golf? Let Dining Service, a restaurant and entertainment service, answer all of your questions. Whether your needs are for a party of one or a group of fifty or more, Dining Service will recommend and make your reservations at San Diego's most enjoyable restaurants, golf courses, and entertainment locations.

During the 1999 TMS Annual Meeting & Exhibition, you will find the Dining Service Information Booth located in the Grand Lobby of the San Diego Convention Center. Booth hours are Sunday, February 28, from 12:00noon-6:00p.m., and Monday, March 1, through Wednesday, March 3, 10:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m.

DAILY RAFFLES

If you are an attendee of the 1999 TMS Annual Meeting, be sure to stop by the member services desk in the Grand Lobby of the convention center and drop off your business card to enter the daily raffle. There are six chances to win. Prizes are:
