The Merton C. Flemings Symposium: Housing Accommodations

Flemings PhotoThis symposium at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is being held to honor Professor Merton C. Fleming's many years of service to the field of materials science education and research. The symposium will celebrate his exceptionally productive career and contributions as an educator, a researcher, a technology policy leader, a friend, and a mentor. The Department of Materials Science and Engineering (DMSE), MIT, and The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS) are the primary sponsors of the symposium. Several other organizations and companies to which to which Professor Flemings' has made significant contributions have agreed to cosponsor the event.

THE ROYAL SONESTA HOTEL

The Royal Sonesta Hotel, adjacent to the Galleria in Cambridge, will be the symposium hotel. There will be a reception at the hotel for those who arrive on Tuesday evening. A block of rooms has been reserved. Considering the demand for hotel rooms in Cambridge in June, even now would not be too soon to make lodging reservations. When making a reservation at the Royal Sonesta (617-806-4200), mention the Merton C. Flemings Symposium.

The Royal Sonesta Hotel regrets that it cannot hold your reservation after 6:00 p.m. on the day of arrival without guaranteeing the reservation. If you do not cancel your reservation by 6:00 p.m. on the day of arrival you will either forfeit your deposit, or the first night's room and tax will be charged to your credit card.

To guarantee your reservation for late arrival (after 6:00 p.m.):

Send a check or money order covering the first night's room and tax payable to the Royal Sonesta Hotel with your completed Hotel Registration form (PDF file which can be viewed using Adobe Acrobat).

OR

Send complete credit card information (American Express, Diners Club, VISA, MasterCard, or Discover) including entire number, expiration date, and signature to the Royal Sonesta Hotelwith your completed Hotel Registration form (PDF file which can be viewed using Adobe Acrobat).

Reservations and group rate after May 27, 2000 will be on a space and rate available basis.

Check-in/Check-out

Check in time is after 3:00 PM. Anyone arriving earlier than 3:00 PM will be checked in as soon as rooms become available. However, delays may be possible due to room availability before regular check-in time.

Check out time is 12:00 Noon. A late check out fee may be assessed for departure past 12:00 Noon.

The hotel will be happy to arrange for baggage storage for attendees’ luggage.

Hotel Shuttle

A shuttle will be departing from the Royal Sonesta Hotel each morning at 7:30AM for the Tang Center at MIT.

MIT DORMITORY HOUSING

A limited amount of dormitory housing is available at the Massachusettes Institute of technology, for attendees of the Merton C. Flemings Sumposium. All rooms are single occupancy only and will be available on a first-come-first reservation basis. Advanced room reservation is strongly recommended, as space is extremely limited.
