SPECIALTY MEETINGS
Specialty
meetings feature intensive programming in a single topic area
(e.g., electronic materials, superalloys, and recycling) and may be
one-time events or new installments in a series. Although TMS directly
organizes and administrates its specialty meetings, these meetings often
feature cosponsorship of other organizations.

The 15th International Conference on Textures of Materials (ICOTOM 15)
June 2-6, 2008; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Held every three years, ICOTOM is an international conference series for the global crystallographic
texture community. ICOTOM is dedicated to the goal of promoting all aspects of texture research and applications in all kinds of crystalline materials, from metals to rocks to polymers. In particular, the development of experimental and theoretical tools for texture research, the improvement of prediction of texture and anisotropy, and utilization of texture in relevant areas are objectives of the texture community of ICOTOM. The scope of the traditional texture community is broadening to include a variety of disciplines of modern materials science and technology. New techniques
such as advanced stereologies, serial sectioning technologies, and direct 3-D characterization are changing the texture field in exciting ways.

3rd International Symposium on Magnesium--Symposium H: Magnesium
June 9-12, 2008; Chongqing, China
This symposium aims to continue the highly successful first and second International Conference on Magnesium held in Beijing, China, in 2004 and 2006. Due to its low-density and high-specific strength and stiffness, and many attractive characteristics, magnesium is increasingly used in automotive, aerospace, computers, and communication and consumer industries. However, significant technological challenges remain; and magnesium is not a major structural material for many applications. In recent years, many new alloys and innovative applications have been developed around the world. China has become the largest magnesium producer, accounting for about 70 percent in the world magnesium production. The symposium will provide a forum for exchange and discussion of new ideas and the latest achievements related to magnesium. A further objective of the conference is to highlight the global and regional trends crucial to future research fields and potential applications. It also offers the opportunity to explore the rapidly growing Chinese magnesium industry and a tour of local manufacturing enterprises.
