Congressional Visit Days

The annual Science-Engineering-Technology Congressional Visits Days (CVD) mobilize scientists and engineers to address the importance of adequately funding R&D in the physical sciences. Each spring, scientists and engineers from a variety of disciplines meet in Washington, D.C., to discuss these issues with their representatives in Congress.

CVD ACTIVITIES

CVD activities for the materials community are organized through the Federation of Materials Societies (FMS), of which TMS is a member society, and include the participation of representatives from a number of materials societies.

TMS began participating in CVD in 2003 and has become more involved in the program each year. The society encourages its members to voice their support for increased federal funding of R&D in the physical sciences by joining in next year’s CVD activities.

GETTING INVOLVED

Participants do not act alone, but in cooperation with other members of the materials science and engineering community. Every attendee participates in a training and orientation session prior to visiting their members of Congress.
