2004 Congressional Visit Days

The following summarizes the 2004 Congressional visit held on March 3rd and 4th.

2004 SUMMARY

In 2004, TMS sent five representatives as part of the Federation of Materials Societies delegation to Congressional Visits Day. In all, more than 200 scientists and engineers participated in the event, including materials community representatives from the American Association for Crystal Growth, the American Welding Society, and ASM International.

This group visited 32 Congressional offices, emphasizing the need for continued federal support of science and technology R&D and science and technology education programs, even in times of budget constraints. Participants answered questions from members of Congress and their staffs, urged House and Senate members to join their respective R&D caucuses, and committed to following up the annual Washington visits with continuing contact with representatives and senators in their home districts.

The following individuals represented TMS at Congressional Visits Days in 2004: Kevin Hemker, Warren H. Hunt, Jr., Alexander Scott, Dan Thoma, and Murat Tiryakioglu.
