FROM THE FEDERATION OF MATERIALS SOCIETIES: The House Science and Technology Committee had reported out 12 energy and environment-related measures by the Independence Day recess. The latest include:
- H.R.906, the Global Change Research and Data Management Act, which would expand the U.S. Global Change Research Program to provide more user-driven research and information to state and local governments
- H.R.1993, the DOE Carbon Capture and Storage Research, Development and Demonstration Act, which would reauthorize the Department of Energy’s (DOE) coal R&D programs, specifically authorizing large-scale demonstrations of both carbon dioxide capture technologies and containment
- H.R.2773, the Biofuels Research and Development Enhancement Act, which would increase funding levels for DOE biofuels research, focusing on infrastructure needs and efficiencies of biorefineries
- H.R.2774, the Solar Energy Research and Advancement Act, which would authorize funds to establish a research and development program on storage technologies for concentrating solar power, and to establish a program to ensure an adequate number of trained and educated solar industry workers
