P & GA Congressional Visit Days
The Science-Engineering-Technology Congressional Visit Days (CVD) mobilize
scientists and engineers to address the importance of adequately funding
research and development in the physical sciences.
The CVD is a two-day annual event held each spring in the Washington D.C. area.
Scientists and engineers from a variety of disciplines meet in Washington, D.C.,
to discuss these issues with their representatives in Congress and raise
visibility and support for materials science, engineering, and technology
funding.
Objective...
to underscore the long-term importance of science, engineering, and technology to the Nation through meetings with congressional decisionmakers.
Participants...
members of the Science-Engineering-Technology Working Group and other colleagues in the science and technology enterprise.
The CVD is open to all people who believe that science and technology comprise the cornerstone of our Nation's future.
TMS encourages its members to voice their support for increased federal funding of Research and Development in the physical sciences by joining in Congressional Visit Days. Participants do not act alone, but in cooperation with other members of the materials science and engineering community. Every attendee participates in a training and orientation session prior to visiting their members of Congress.
CVD 2012
Thirty nine Material Advantage students and faculty advisors from 15 universities will attend this year’s Congressional Visits Day (CVD) on April 17 – 18, 2012, in Washington, DC.
The CVD is a two-day event, hosted by the Material Advantage Student Program, that is designed to raise visibility and support for science, engineering
and technology. The objective of CVD is to underscore the long-term importance of science, engineering, and technology to the Nation through meetings
with congressional decision makers. Students bring youthful enthusiasm to Capitol Hill and are the faces of future innovators sent to enlighten
their elected officials and staff about the importance of their support for funding of education and research in the science, engineering and
technology field.
You may also visit the Material Advantage Congressional Visit Days website for additional information on this year's program.
CVD activities for the materials community are organized through the Federation of Materials Societies (FMS), of which TMS is a member society, and include the participation of representatives from a number of materials societies.
TMS began participating in CVD in 2003 and has become more involved in the program each year. The society encourages its members to voice their support for increased federal funding of R&D in the physical sciences by joining in CVD activities.
