Recipient: 1997 LMD Aluminum Distinguished Service Award



The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society's Light Metals Division Aluminum Distinguished Service Award, established in 1995, recognizes an individual whose continuous service to the TMS Aluminum Committee activities has facilitated the Society's ability to serve its aluminum-oriented members and their supporting organizations.

Elwin L. Rooy

Citation: "For many years of outstanding service to the Aluminum Committee in leadership, professional, and committee roles."

Biography: Elwin L. Rooy is a consultant with Rooy and Associates. He earned his B.S. in metallurgical engineering at Case Institute of Technology in 1956. After serving in the U.S. Air Force for four years, he joined the Aluminum Company of America, where he served in a number of positions during his 30 year career. He left Alcoa in 1990 to form Elwin L. Rooy and Associates. He is the author or coauthor of 17 publications and has received numerous honors, including the M.C. Flemings Award.
