Citation: "For outstanding contributions to the development of nucleation and phase selection criteria and for developing innovative approaches to examine metastable phase selection."

Biography: John H. Perepezko is a professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He received his B.S. and M.S. in metallurgical engineering at the Polytechnic University in 1967 and 1968, respectively. He earned his Ph.D. in metallurgy and materials science in 1973 at Carnegie Mellon University. Following completion of his Ph.D. and a postdoctoral appointment at Carnegie Mellon University, he joined the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1975. He has also held visiting appointments at the Universitat des Saarlandes and the National Institute of Standards and Technology. He is chair of the advisory panel to NASA on microgravity materials science. He is the author or coauthor of more than 170 papers on solidification, metastable structures, kinetics, and the analysis and modeling of microstructure developments and serves on the board of several journals and international conferences. He holds five patents. He has received numerous honors and has presented 11 invited lectures worldwide.

Quote: "TMS provides an exceptional forum for a wide range of issues, both new and traditional, in modern materials. The technical meetings provide a clear perspective on the latest developments in materials technology and materials education. I have always considered TMS to be at the core of the professional society relations and technical interactions that I have developed in my career. It is especially rewarding to be recognized by my peers for achievements in solidification science and technology."
