Recipient: 1997 William Hume-Rothery Award



The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society's William Hume-Rothery Award was established in 1972 by the Institute of Metals Division of TMS and recognizes outstanding scholarly contributions to the science of alloys. The award includes an invitation to the recipient to be the honored lecturer at the William Hume-Rothery Memorial Symposium during the TMS Annual Meeting.

Bruno Predel

Lecture Title: "Constitution and Thermodynamics of Monotectic Alloys"

Biography: Bruno Predel is a professor at the Max Planck Institut für Metallforschung, Institut für Werkstoffwissenschaft. He earned his Dipl.-Chem. in chemistry in 1954 at the University of Münster and his Dr.Rer.Nat. in physical chemistry in 1956 at the University of Münster. After earning his Dr.Rer.Nat., he worked at the University of Münster until joining the University of Stüttgard, where he became full professor and a member of the Max Planck Institute in 1973. He was a guest professor at the University of Kyoto, Japan, and dean of the faculty of chemistry at the University of Stüttgard in 1986-1988. In 1987, he served as director at the Max Planck Institute. He has authored or coauthored 430 papers and seven books. He is a member of the advisory board for two journals.
