Recipients: The 1997 LMD Light Metals Award



The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society's Light Metals Division Light Metals Award, established in 1983, is awarded to the author(s) of a paper published in the preceding year's volume of Light Metals, which notably exemplifies the solution of a practical problem.

Peter Waite

Biography: Peter Waite is a senior scientist with Alcan International. He earned his B.S. and M.S. in chemical engineering at the University of Waterloo in 1982 and 1985, respectively. For the last 12 years, his work has focused on fundamental and process research in the field of molten aluminum treatment--degassing, filtration, and fluxing.

Roger Thiffault

Biography: Roger Thiffault is a casthouse production engineer at Alcan Smelter and Chemicals Limited. He joined Alcan after earning his B.S. in materials science from Ecole Polytechnique.
