The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society's Leadership Award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in some aspect of metallurgy and materials as a representative of an industrial, academic, governmental, or technical organization.

Gordon H. Geiger

Citation: "For outstanding and exemplary leadership in the materials profession through research, teaching, professional accreditation, TMS, and the implementation of knowledge in the metals industry."

Biography: Gordon H. Geiger is chair and chief executive officer of Qualitech Steel Corporation. He earned his B.E. in metallurgy from Yale University in 1959 and his M.S. and Ph.D. in metallurgy and materials science from Northwestern University in 1961 and 1964, respectively. During his career he has held positions in both academia and industry. He has been a member of the staffs at the University of Wisconsin, the University of Illinois at Chicago, and the University of Arizona. He has also worked for several companies, including Cargill, Inland Steel Company, and U.S. Steel.

Dr. Geiger has authored or coauthored several textbooks and more than 60 technical articles. A TMS Past President (1992), he has received numerous honors and awards.
