Barry J. Welch

Biography: Barry J. Welch is a professor in the depart-ment of chemical and materials engineering at the University of Auckland.

Dr. Welch earned his D.Sc. in electrochemical engineering from the University of Auckland and his Ph.D. on the thermodynamics of molten salts from the University of New Zealand. A former chair of his department, he was also the founding director of the Research Centre of Surface and Materials Engineering. He is a fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand and the Institute of Chemical Engineers.

Dr. Welch is the author or co-author of more than 200 referenced publications, including 6 that have received the Light Metals Division Best Paper Award. He is the recipient of numerous other honors and awards.
