Recipients: The 2001 LMD Light Metals Award



The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society's Light Metals Division Light Metals Award, established in 1983, is awarded to the author(s) of a paper published in the preceding year's volume of Light Metals, which notably exemplifies the solution of a practical problem.

Biography: Edward M. Williams is a staff engineer at Alcoa, Pittsburgh, PA.

Sander A. Levy

Biography: Sander A. Levy, is President of AluBest Consulting LLC, Richmond VA. He earned a B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Lehigh University in 1961, 1962 and 1965 respectively. Dr. Levy held various positions at Reynolds Aluminum for 33 years with the final position being that of a Research Fellow in casting technology. He is an ASM Fellow, was the Richmond ASM Chapter Chairman 1972 and ASM Outstanding Young Member 1970.

Geoffrey K. Sigworth

Biography: Geoffrey K. Sigworth is president of GKS Engineering Services. He earned a B.S. in metallurgy from Carnegie Mellon University in 1967 and a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1972. He was the founder of RFP Technologies, Inc., which manufactures degassing equipment for foundries and cast shops. Five hundred degassing systems of his design are now in service worldwide.

Dr. Sigworth is the author or co-author of 68 technical papers and 14 patents.

He has received the Howard F. Taylor and Scientific Merit Awards from the American Foundrymen’s Society and the Merton C. Flemings Award from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
