Recipients: The 2001 LMD Light Metals Technical Service Award



The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society's Light Metals Division's Light Metals Technical Service Award, established in 1995, recognizes an individual who has demonstrated outstanding long-term service to the light metals industry by consistently providing technical and/or operating knowledge that has enhanced the competitiveness of the industry.

James W. Evans

Citation: Presented in recognition of his extraordinary contributions to the science and production of aluminum through teaching, innovative analysis, and industrial application.

Biography: James W. Evans is a professor in the department of materials science and engineering at the University of California, Berkeley.

Dr. Evans earned a B.S. in chemistry from the University of London, UK, in 1964 and a Ph.D. from the University of Buffalo in 1970. He has authored over 250 publications, including three books and six patents.

Dr. Evans has received many honors and awards, including the TMS Extractive Metallurgy Science Award (1973 and 1983), Extractive and Processing Lecturer (1994), and Champion H. Mathewson Gold Medal (1984).
