Recipient: 2002 Structural Materials Division Distinguished Scientist/Engineer Award



The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society's SMD Distinguished Scientist/Engineer Award, established in 1996, recognizes an individual who has made a long-lasting contribution to the fundamental understanding of microstructure, properties, and performance of structural materials for industrial applications.

Recipient PhotoGeorge T. Gray

Citation: "For significant contributions to the structureproperty correlation in materials, especially in the high-strain rate regime."

Biography: George T. Gray is team leader in the dynamic properties section of Los Alamos National Laboratory. He earned a B.S. and M.S. in metallurgical engineering from South Dakota School of Mines in 1976 and 1977, respectively, and a Ph.D. in metallurgical engineering and materials science at Carnegie Mellon University in 1981. Dr. Gray has coauthored more than 190 papers.
