The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society's Distinguished Service Award recognizes recognizes a member's outstanding contributions to TMS. The recipient must be a member of TMS and must have exhibited exceptional devotion of time, effort, thought, and action toward furthering the Society's mission through administrative/function activities.

Robert H. Wagoner

Citation: "For pervasive career-long service to TMS, for spearheading the new TMS/ISS Headquarters building, and for representing TMS to AIME and Acta Materialia, Incorporated. "

Biography: Prof. Wagoner is the George R. Smith Chair in Engineering at The Ohio State University. He earned a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in metallurgical engineering from The Ohio State University in 1974, 1975, and 1976 respectively. His research group at OSU developed the “SHEET” family of computer programs to simulate sheet metal forming operations. Other work includes invention of the OSU Formability Test, OSU Friction Test, the Hydraulic Forming Simulator, and the low-cost Metal Formability Tester. He has authored over 200 publications, including six books.

Dr. Wagoner is a past president of TMS and the 2003 president of AIME. He has received various awards and honors including the TMS Mathewson Gold Medal, TMS Hardy Gold Medal, TMS Fellow Award, AIME Raymond Award, and election to the National Academy of Engineering.
