Recipient: 2005 Bruce Chalmers Award

The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society's Bruce Chalmers Award was established in 1989 by the Materials Processing & Manufacturing Division of TMS and is named for Bruce Chalmers, widely acknowledged as the father of modern solidification science. The award recognizes outstanding contributions to the field of solidification science.

Jonathan A. Dantzig

Citation: For his many landmark contributions to the development and application of rigorous tools for computational modeling of solidification processes.

Biography: Jonathan Dantzig is the W. Grafton and Lillian B. Wilkins Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Illinois. He is the co-inventor of MHD-DC casting process, holds 20 U.S. patents, has authored numerous articles, presented numerous keynote addresses, and co-authored, with C. Tucker III, Modeling in Materials Processing.

Prof. Dantzig has received various awards and honors, among them: Olin Outstanding Achievement Award (1980), Arnold Beckman Award (1982), Union Oil Young Faculty Award (1985–88) and Fellow, ASM International (1998).
