John P. HagerCitation: For his vision, enthusiasm, knowledge, efforts, and devotion to achieve outstanding accomplishments within the global professional communities and his participation in the international recognition of TMS. Biography:John Hager is Professor Emeritus of the Colorado School of Mines (CSM) where he has spent his entire 38-year professional career. He served as teacher, researcher, and head of the Department of Metallurgical Engineering for several years. In 1994, he was appointed the director of the Kroll Institute of Extractive Metallurgy. His contributions were recognized with the awarding of grants from various foundations in support of pioneering research and educational developments in extractive metallurgy. Dr. Hager held a named professorship for the last 28 of his 38- year tenure at CSM. Dr. Hager’s research program was heavily supported by industry because of the strong focus on new process development and metals recycling. Prof. Hager’s service to TMS included two terms on the Board of Directors, chairman and vice-chairman of the Extraction & Processing Division (EPD), founding chairman of the Waste Treatment and Minimization Committee, and chairman or vice chairman of many other committees including Process Fundamentals, Continuing Education, Honors & Awards, Recycling, EPD Council, and Publications. He was the editor of the EPD Congress publication for two years and was the co-editor of four international conference proceedings. Prof. Hager served as a TMS representative to the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) and participated in 10 ABET accreditations of college and university metallurgical and materials engineering programs. Prof. Hager currently serves on the Strategic Planning Advisor Committee of the TMS Board of Directors and is the chairman of the Recycling Committee. |
