Recipient: 2006 Bruce Chalmers Award

The Bruce Chalmers Award, was established in 1994 and is named for Bruce Chalmers, the widely acknowledged as the father of modern solidification science. This award recognizes an individual who has made outstanding contributions and is a leader in the field of electronic materials.

Recipient Diran Apelian

Recipient PhotoCitation: For his primary work in molten metal processing, diffusion solidification, spray casting, and solidification processing of light metals

Biography: Diran Apelian is Howmet Professor of Engineering and director of the Metal Processing Institute (MPI) at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where he has worked for more than 15 years.

Dr. Apelian’s research interests and expertise are in materials processing and, specifically, in solidification and net-shape manufacturing.
