Honors and Awards

The mission of TMS is to promote the global science and engineering professions concerned with minerals, metals, and materials.

 

Recipient: 2006 Educator Award

The Educator Award was established in 1985 to recognize outstanding contributions to education in metallurgical engineering and/or materials science and engineering. The award is not limited to the classroom but also includes recognition of innovative ways of educating the general populace.

Recipient John P. Hager

Recipient PhotoCitation: For his many years of exemplary service to metallurgical engineering education at the Colorado School of Mines, with TMS and ABET, as a teacher, adviser and colleague

Biography: John P. Hager is university professor emeritus at the Colorado School of Mines, where he has devoted his 38-year career. In 1994, he was appointed the director of the Kroll Institute for Extractive Metallurgy.

Dr. Hager has held a named professorship for his last 28 years, served as a TMS representative to ABET and participated in 10 accreditations of metallurgical and materials engineering programs. A member of the TMS Strategic Planning Advisory Committee, the professor is also chairman of the TMS Recycling Committee.
