TMS Bylaws: Article IX. Nominations and Elections



Section 1.
A Nominating Committee of nine (9) members shall be appointed by the Vice President and approved by the Board of Directors during the Annual Meeting of the Society.

Section 2.
The Nominating Committee of the Society shall select:

A. The nominee for Vice President of the Society who will automatically become a member of the AIME Board of Directors for a two-year term while serving as President and Past President of the Society;

B. Every fourth year, the nominee for the President-Elect Designate of AIME who will automatically serve a four-year term on the AIME Board of Directors successively as President-Elect Designate, President-Elect, President, and Past President;

C. The nominee for Financial Planning Office of the Society for a three-year term; and

D. The nominees for approximately seven (7) Functional Area Directors to serve on the Society Board of Directors for three-year terms.

E. The nominating process for the five (5) Division Chairperson/Directors shall be in the form of a Call for Nominations made to the technical committees and the general voting membership within each division, all of whom will have the opportunity to submit candidates. This will result in a slate of candidates from each division which will then be submitted to the TMS Vice President for review and appointment of the Division Chairperson/Director nominees. The TMS Board will review and approve the Vice President's nominees. All Division Chairperson/Directors will serve a three-year term.

Section 3.
The names and biographies of all nominees shall be published in the July issue of JOM each year. Any twenty-five (25) members of the Society may submit additional nominations to the Board of Directors for one or more of the positions specified in Article IX, Section 2, providing only that such nominee meet the requirements of Article VIII. Such nominations must be received not later than August 15 of each year and the names and biographies of all nominees for the positions designated shall then be published in the October issue of JOM, with equal space devoted to each.

Section 4.
If additional nominations are not received by August 15, the President shall declare the Nominating Committee's nominees to be automatically elected. If additional nominees are received, a letter ballot showing all nominees for the position concerned shall be sent on or about October 1 to all grades of Society membership except student members. The President shall appoint a Tally Committee. The Tally Committee shall count the ballots received by December 1. The nominee receiving the plurality of ballots for each position shall then be declared elected.
