Student Membership

The mission of TMS is to promote the global science and engineering professions concerned with minerals, metals, and materials.

Student Scholarships, Awards, and Competitions

Each year, TMS awards more than $50,000 in cash and prizes to students studying metallurgy and materials science engineering.

Student members are invited to take part in these competitions and join the long list of talented students who entered previously and won. Please select an option below to view the competition details. Additional competition opportunities can be found on the Material Advantage web site.

AVAILABLE STUDENT COMPETITIONS

Details about how awards are bestowed are described on the individual contest pages and contain the necessary application forms, which are available in portable document format.

To participate, review the eligibility and submission guidelines and follow the instructions carefully. Entries must be received at TMS Headquarters no later than March 15 annually. Incomplete entries will be discarded. Winners will be notified shortly after August 17th.

JUDGE SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS & CONTESTS

While most scholarship applications and student awards are judged by appointed committee members, interested members may ask to be considered to serve as scholarship judges. TMS especially encourages members to volunteer as judges for the undergraduate student design competition and the outstanding student paper contest. To volunteer, please contact member services below.
