It is a great honor to receive the acknowledgement of my achievements
in the form of such a prestigious award from TMS. It will significantly aid
me in the continuation of my study of materials science/education within university
and beyond into the professional workplace. Membership of TMS is especially
important to me as it provides the opportunity to interact and exchange thoughts
and ideas with a host of people from all around the world, again furthering
my education and broadening my horizons. I would also like to take this opportunity
to thank TMS for their continuing support and service and look forward to attending
the annual meeting.
I am proud to be a TMS member and very thankful to be selected for this
award. TMS provides the necessary connection between the large community of
materials science and engineering and the individual. I am a great fan of Metallurgical
and Materials Transactions . This award will provide the encouragement and support
for me to carry out my research in the best possible way.
I am so excited and happy to receive this award. It was one of my dreams
throughout my graduate study. Being recognized by an outstanding society such
as TMS is a great honor. Such recognition has encouraged me to work even harder
than before. I would like to thank the TMS committee for the award and continuous
support for student members. Also, I would like to dedicate this award to my
father and my advisors, Dr. S. Kalidindi and Dr. R. Doherty, for their invaluable
guidance.
It is a great honor to be selected as the winner of this award by TMS.
I would like to acknowledge my supervisor, Dr. James G. Morris, for his outstanding
guidance. This award encourages me to keep going ahead in my research. I have
benefited much from TMS by attending the TMS-sponsored meetings and by receiving
the TMS-sponsored journals. I believe that TMS will help me achieve a successful
career. I appreciate TMS for giving me this award. Thanks are also due to my
family, teachers, colleagues, and friends.
2001 International Symposium on Superalloys Scholarship
Megan J. Cordill, Washington State University
This award will enable me to complete my undergraduate schooling and reach
my goal of becoming a materials science engineer. The scholarship also shows
me to focus on my studies and get the most out of my education. My TMS membership
is a beneficial networking tool that is helping me make contacts leading to
a future career.
It is an honor to be chosen as a recipient of the 2001 International Symposium
on Superalloys Scholarship. I would like to express my thanks to TMS, the International
Symposium on Superalloys Committee, and those who have helped guide me, for
this award. This scholarship is a note of recognition of what I have done, and
now what I have to accomplish.
I am honored to receive the EMPMD Gilbert Chin Scholarship. TMS has really
helped me as a student not just financially, but also by giving me many
opportunities to learn about the materials community, attend professional conferences,
and make invaluable contacts in the industry. I am proud to call myself a member
of TMS.
I am very proud to have been named a 2002 EPD Scholar. It is a great acknowledgement
of my efforts in both academic and professional achievement. My involvement
in TMS has bolstered these pursuits through opportunities afforded and will
be further assisted by this scholarship.
TMS membership at University of Texas has begun my network of fellow materials
people. TMS publications have expanded my breadth of metals and materials knowledge.
This award has given me a personal boost and has taken the strain from expenses
for one semester. Thank you.
I feel greatly honored to receive this award. This summer I took a position
as an intern with a research company; it gave me renewed focus and excitement.
However, the internship did not provide enough money to get me through another
year of school. For this financial support from TMS, I am truly grateful.
Extraction & Processing Division Scholarship
Robert L.O. Olson, The University of British Columbia
What attracts me to the study of extractive metallurgy is its long, rich
history exhibiting the best of human innovation and ingenuity. My gratitude
goes to TMS for making me a small part of that history this year by recognition
as an EPD Scholar. I hope to repay the societys generosity by ensuring
that my own personal history is filled with lifelong contributions
to our industry.
It is a great honor and privilege to be chosen as the 2001 TMS LMD Scholarship

what I have achieved today. These peoplemy family, friends, professors,
and colleaguesshare in this honor. Also the scholarship money will go
a long way in helping me attain my goals and realize my dreams.
It is with sincere appreciation to TMS that I receive the LMD Scholarship.
Through student chapter activities and professional monthly journals, TMS has
become a pinnacle of guidance and inspiration during my undergraduate years.
Thanks to their support, I am one step further to accomplishing my dream of
becoming a metallurgical engineer.
Increasing
the properties of Light Metals is important to advance technology. This award
will enable me to concentrate on my studies in metallurgy and graduate debt-free
instead of working while in school. Thank you for this gift.
This
particular award and my membership in TMS are very important factors in my development
as a student and towards my professional career. The scholarship symbolizes
the culmination of four years of hard work and proves to me that the time I
spent was worthwhile. In addition, the scholarship and the resources and connections
that I have as a TMS member, provide the means for me to reach both the education
and professional goals I have set for myself.
The
TMS SMD Scholarship will be a substantial help in paying for my senior year.
This scholarship will give me the freedom to pursue my goals, both personal
and educational. It means a lot to me to be recognized and rewarded by a society
in my field of study.
This award represents two things. First, it shows the power of computational modeling of materials. Secondly, it shows through hard work and determination materials properties can be pushed to new limits. -- Matthew Price
