Metal-matrix composites (MMCs) are becoming increasingly important in industrial applications, such as aerospace, automotive, electronics, thermal management, and wear applications. Through the TMS Metal-Matrix Composites on-line short course, undergraduate materials science students can obtain a basic overview of MMCs that could be very beneficial as supplementary course work. The course is introductory in nature, addressing processing, properties, and applications, with a special focus on lightweighting and aluminum.
The course comprises six self-contained modules consisting of audio, visual, and text teaching materials. Completion time for the entire course is approximately eight hours. A free course preview and on-line registration are available via the TMS Document Center at: http://doc.tms.org.
