AIST and International Students Join Material Advantage ProgramThe addition of two new groups means additional resources and global diversity for the Material Advantage student program in 2006. The Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST) will contribute its resources and membership benefits to the program, while the addition of international student members will provide a more global perspective to the program.
When the Material Advantage program was launched in 2005, it encompassed all of the North American student members of the American Ceramic Society (ACerS), ASM International, and TMS, providing full membership benefits of the three societies to student members for $25. This unique collaboration brought together a host of resources, including approximately $400,000 in scholarship money, membership rebates, free meeting registrations, travel scholarships, journal subscriptions, and networking opportunities. For 2006, AIST has joined the Material Advantage program as a full partner, meaning that students will enjoy the benefits of all four societies for the same membership rate of $25. All Material Advantage student members will have access to a host of benefits offered by AIST, including the opportunity for signifi cantly more scholarship money (approximately $600,000), an electronic and rotating print subscription to Iron & Steel Technology magazine, access to industry news on www.steelnews.com; and discounts on AIST meeting registration and publications. Additionally, ACerS, ASM, and TMS are enrolling all of their International Student Members in the Material Advantage program, giving them full access to the membership benefits offered by the multi-society program. Material Advantage membership was formerly only available to North American students. These enhancements contribute to making Material Advantage an essential career partner for material science and engineering students. To learn more, visit www.materialadvantage.org.
