Students Are My Customers

My official title is manager of education and professional affairs and although much of my day-to-day contact is with faculty advisors and professors, industry leaders, and committee members, one of my major responsibilities is serving you--our student members.

Exciting things are happening within our student affairs program, and Professional Preface is your medium for learning about them. Professional Preface, however, is not intended to simply be a newsletter updating you on TMS, but it is a publication for students to communicate their experiences to one another. Since this is the last issue for this academic year, we would like to hear from you regarding what topics we should focus on during the 1995-96 academic year. And we'd like to see what you have for us to publish, too!

Be certain to tear out this issue of Professional Preface and hold on to it! The April issue not only summarizes student activities at the 1995 TMS Annual Meeting, but also informs you of two important programs in which you should try to be involved this summer. First, the 1995-96 TMS Student Awards Program kicks off this month with the distribution of applications to all TMS student members and chapter faculty advisors. TMS will again be presenting more than $30,000 in cash and prizes to students this year. Second, an impressive article on how to get your chapter connected to TMS OnLine via a page on the World Wide Web is in this issue. Web pages, while not a requirement for the Chapters of Excellence award, can be considered as part of your chapter's activities and are a great way to let everyone know what you're doing.

The summary of the TMS Annual Meeting in Las Vegas, Nevada, in this issue demonstrates the commitment of TMS to ensuring that you receive quality membership benefits and to developing new ways in which we can assist you in achieving your professional goals. Your concerns are our concerns.

Please contact me via e-mail at koebnick@tms.org or telephone at (412) 776-9000, ext. 226, should you need assistance or have a suggestion.

Have a good summer!
