Can You Design and Fabricate an Advanced Composite?

If you think you can, the TMS Materials Design & Manufacturing Division (MDMD) has a challenge for you--design and fabricate your own low-cost, high-strength, high-toughness composite materials for the 1995 Materials Design (MaD) Contest.

The MaD Contest has been revised this year and offers students a chance to show their creativity. Instead of simply writing a paper, contestants now design and submit their own materials, created under contest guidelines being finalized by the MDMD. Both individual and team projects will be accepted. Finalists will be notified in January 1996, and their materials will be tested by the MDMD at the 1996 TMS Annual Meeting, which will be held February 4-8 in Anaheim, California.

First prize is $1,000 and second prize is $500; both prizes also come with an additional $250 stipend for travel expenses. Entries must be received at TMS headquarters by January 1, 1996.

For contest details and an application, see your student chapter faculty advisor or contact TMS Student Affairs at 184 Thorn Hill Road, Warrendale, Pennsylvania 15086; (724) 776-9000, ext. 213 or 226; fax (724) 776-3770.
