There's a home for you at TMS on the World Wide Web. The TMS student member site, made specifically to address student activities, has been improved and expanded to better meet your needs and expectations The site, located at http://www.tms.org/Students/ProPref/ProPref.html, offers a suite of pages containing a wealth of information concerning TMS student activities, scholarships and awards, listings of student chapters, and other materials science and engineering sites on the Internet. The site posts award-winning student papers and downloadable student membership applications.
One of the most popular pages at the site has been the Awards and Scholarships Page, where students can use the Internet to obtain information about each of TMS's ten contests as well as funds and scholarships offered by other organizations. As of March 1, the site has been accessed 8,919 times, making it the third most heavily trafficked site on the TMS pages behind the TMS Home Page and the JOM Classified Advertising Page. The site contains entries for each contest or scholarship, listing eligibility requirements, deadline dates, and contact names and numbers for more information.

If you missed an issue of Professional Preface, you can find every story from every issue on the web . This archive offers text and graphics.
The student site also features a link to the Student Chapter Page. Among the topics included here are the responsibilities of student chapter officers, student membership development, and the faculty advisor. There is also a detailed description of The Role of the Student Member in TMS. Hopefully, this page will provide you with everything you ever wanted to know about your role within the Society, eligibility requirements for membership, and the benefits you can glean from TMS membership.
Students can also use the student web site to access all of the information found in the Student Reference Manual and a list of current TMS Student Chapters. As available, the list of student chapters contains pointers to web sites that the TMS student chapters have established about themselves. Thus far, Auburn University, the University of British Columbia, and the Ohio State University have developed a web presence devoted to their TMS student members' activities. That still leaves 82 chapters that have yet to develop their own sites. Please let us know when you create one so that we may link you up.
