Check Out the New Student Members' Home Page

TMS recently revamped the Student Members' Home Page on the TMS World Wide Web site at http://www.tms.org/Students/Students.html. The new page contains a description of the role of student members in TMS with a wealth of links to sites on student chapters, contests, TMS meetings and publications, ASM International, and the Young Leaders Committee.

A shadow box contains the student chapter bylaws, a listing of current TMS student chapters (with links to their sites if available), and information on forming a joint ASM/TMS; TMS/Metallurgical Society of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy, and Petroleum Engineers; or international chapter.

The page also contains a guide to other student pages in TMS OnLine. The links include an online student membership application; a description of the more than $30,000 in scholarships and awards that are available annually to TMS student members; the complete text (with graphics) of the current student paper contest winners; the TMS Career Resource Center, which is currently under development with a grant from the Sloan Foundation; and information on the Internet for students and practicing professionals interested in materials science and engineering. In addition, the guide contains a link to the Professional Preface archives, where past articles from this newsletter are provided. The site offers information on careers, student scholarships and awards, and other student member benefits, plus presents chapters activities and other items of interest.
