Get Ready for Membership Challenge Week: October 19-27

Membership Challenge Week is a recruitment contest held each fall between student chapters; this year, Membership Challenge Week is October 19-27. Student chapters are challenged to find creative strategies to increase their chapter membership during that week. The contest winners receive recognition and prizes for the most creative strategies and the highest percentage increase in chapter membership.

Student chapter membership levels will be recorded as of Friday, October 18, prior to Membership Challenge Week. At the end of the week, each chapter must submit new membership applications with the challenge cover sheet (located in the Joint ASM/TMS Student Chapter Handbook or upon request). All entries must be postmarked no later than Monday, October 28.

Most Creative Recruitment Strategies
To be eligible for the award for the most creative recruitment strategies, chapters must submit new member applications with a completed challenge cover sheet postmarked by Monday, October 28. A record of the week's activities and programs must be included with the cover sheet, as well as a one-page description of the recruitment strategies used and photographs of any activities.

The chapter that implements the most creative program to recruit new members (as judged by a panel of ASM and TMS members) while achieving a minimum 15% increase in membership will win this contest. The winning chapter will hold a special membership challenge trophy, which will be kept until the following Materials Week. An article recognizing the chapter will be published in JOM and Advanced Materials and Processes. In addition to the trophy, the chapter will receive a check for $250.

Most Students Recruited
To win the most students recruited contest, chapters must follow the same submission procedure described above. Chapters will be evaluated on the percentage of increase in membership; the chapter with the highest percentage increase will be recognized in JOM and Advanced Materials and Processes and will receive a check for $500.

Additional details and challenge materials will be forwarded to faculty advisors and chapter chairs separately. For more information, contact Kristi Foster at the Joint ASM/TMS Student Chapter Office at (216) 338-5151 or e-mail KBFoster@po.ASM-Intl.org.
