Student/Faculty Mixer
Fun, food, beer (if you are 21 years old and can prove it), and prizes. Can you think of a better way to spend a Sunday evening in February? This is not just another boring networking event. In true TMS fashion, we will gather in San Diego to dance away the night, win prizes, and enjoy some terrific refreshments.
All attendees, students, faculty, and staff are required to dress appropriately. That means leave your suit at the hotel, and break out your sandals, shorts, and t-shirts.
Invitations will be sent through the chapters, so watch your mail or contact the TMS Education Department, 184 Thorn Hill Road, Warrendale, Pennsylvania 15086; (724) 776-9000, ext. 239; fax (724) 776-3770.
Student Monitors
To make your trip more profitable, why not sign up as a student monitor? Student monitors are responsible for recording session attendance statistics, assisting with audio/visual equipment, and assisting the authors and session organizers. Generally, monitors are paid $40 for each session covered.
By following a few helpful tips, student monitors can make it through the week a little easier while helping to keep the sessions running smoothly.
If you have any additional questions that your advisor can not answer, contact Peggy Weiss, TMS, 184 Thorn Hill Road, Warrendale, Pennsylvania 15086; (724) 776-9000, ext. 227; fax (724) 776-3770; e-mail weissp@tms.org.
Travel Scholarships
A new program sponsored by the TMS technical divisions may help pay your travel expenses for the meeting. Most of the five divisions are offering travel scholarships of $500 to eligible students.
Students receiving travel scholarships are responsible for making their own travel and hotel arrangements and registering for the meeting. To apply for travel assistance, send a letter of application stating why you wish to attend. Name the TMS division that is offering the technical programming in which you are most interested, and include complete information on how you can be contacted. If we cannot contact you, your award will be forfeited. Your letter will be reviewed by a subcommittee of the appropriate sponsoring division. Send letters of application by December 10, 1998, to TMS Student Travel Scholarships, 184 Thorn Hill Road, Warrendale, Pennsylvania 15086; fax (724) 776-3770; e-mail koebnick@tms.org.
