Getting Back in Gear

On behalf of the TMS Student Affairs Committee and staff, welcome back! We hope that you had a pleasant summer and that your student chapter has already begun planning activities for the rest of 1999 and 2000! TMS is looking forward to the new millennium and a busy year that is full of new programs, improved communication, and more activities to promote the field of materials science and engineering. Let's get those "Y2K" bugs out of the way and prepare your schedules now for the best year ever!

Here are some reminders of things to do in the upcoming year:

• November 1999–Have you paid your 2000 dues? Send your payment in now to TMS Headquarters; recruit new members.
• December 1999–Travel scholarship deadline is December 15. Get your applications in if you plan to attend the TMS Annual Meeting in Nashville, March 12-16, 2000; recruit more new members. Graduating in December? Send in your automatic junior member application to TMS and receive complimentary dues in 2000; still recruit new members.
• January 2000–Finalize arrangements now to send your chapter representatives to Nashville; apply for your annual $500 student chapter travel reimbursement; keep recruiting new members.
• March 2000–Student award winners will receive their prizes at the TMS Annual Meeting in Nashville; recruit new members.
• April 2000–Polish off those Chapters of Excellence reports and scholarship applications before you leave the university; yep, still recruit new members.
