TMS Young Leaders: Committee Bylaws

The Young Leaders Committee is a subcommittee of the Membership and Student Development Committee, which is within the Administrative Committees Division of TMS.  View all the technical and admistrative committes on the Committee Home pages.

GENERAL COMMITTEE INFORMATION

Purpose Statement
To develop plans to recognize young professionals, develop appreciation and awareness for TMS activities, and provide young member services.

Procedures
Bring young professionals together to make contacts with Society leaders; network with prominent TMS members; promote recognition of the committee by holding meetings and receptions; promote TMS's commitment to advancing programs to provide the opportunity for young professionals to contribute and influence the future direction of the Society; encourage participation of young members in divisions and technical or administrative committees; intern young professionals on the board and as committee chairs.

Committee Structure

  • The Young Leaders Committee will consist of any TMS member in good standing age 40 and under
  • The chair of the committee shall serve as the Young Leader representative to the Membership Development Committee
  • The TMS manager of Member Services shall serve as staff liaison to this committee

Term of Office
The chair will be assumed by the current vice president and will serve for a term of one year. The vice chair is to be selected by the current chair/vice chair from Young Leaders who wish to serve in this capacity who have indicated a willingness to do so, and who have attended at least two Young Leader business meetings. Interests of academia, industry and government shall appropriately be represented. The vice chair will serve for a term of one year and succeed the committee chair.

Meeting Schedule
The committee shall meet at minimum, twice yearly during the annual and fall meetings of the Society.
