TMS Young Leaders: Professional Development Award

The TMS Young Leaders Professional Development Award was created to enhance the professional development of dynamic young people from TMS’ five technical divisions by helping them participate in Society activities, become better acquainted, make important contacts with TMS leaders, and network with prominent Society members.

For 2010, with partial funding from the AIME Endowment Fund, individuals were selected by the Society's divisions as listed below. 

Materials Processing & Manufacturing Division (MPMD)

Electronic, Magnetic & Photonic Materials Division (EMPMD)
• Paul Ohodnicki, Jr., National Energy Technology Lab

Extraction & Processing Division (EPD)

• James Yurko, 22Ti LLC/Electrolytic Research Corp.

Light Metals Division (LMD)

Each Young Leader Award recipient receives the following:

• TMS membership for the year of the award
• Sponsorship to attend two conferences as follows:
  • Recipients in the Extraction & Processing and Light Metals divisions attend two consecutive TMS Annual Meetings
  • Recipients in the Electronic, Magnetic & Photonic Materials, Materials Processing & Manufacturing, and Structural Materials divisions attend the TMS Annual Meeting and Materials Science & Technology conference (MS&T) (or another fall specialty conference)
• Complimentary registrations to the sponsored conferences
• Hotel accommodations for sponsored conferences.
• $500 travel allowance per conference toward airfare and round-trip transportation from airport to hotel.
• Tickets to conference social functions.
• Admission to appropriate division luncheon and council meetings at the TMS Annual Meeting.
• Admission to the Young Leaders Tutorial Luncheon.
• Admission to technical and administrative committee meetings at the TMS Annual Meeting.
• Invitation to attend the TMS board of directors meeting as an observer.
