The Department of Metallurgical & Materials Engineering (MTE) at The University of Alabama (UA) seeks outstanding applicants at the Assistant Professor level. We are looking for a strong candidate in transportation materials. The applicant with expertise in the areas of transport phenomena in materials processing, chemical-metallurgy, mechanical metallurgy, and ferrous and nonferrous process metallurgy is encouraged to apply. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree in Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science and Engineering. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a strong externally funded research program and to excel in teaching.
The University of Alabama has experienced unprecedented growth and prosperity over the last decade including significant increases in undergraduate and graduate enrollment within the College of Engineering and the completion of the new North Engineering Research Center which has more than 100,000 net square feet dedicated to materials research. Transportation is one of the four priority research areas identified at UA. Additional opportunities and resources may be available through the Alabama Transportation Institute. The MTE department is currently comprised of ten full-time faculty members with active funded research grants and enrolls more than 150 undergraduate and graduate students. The Department has a strong history of research and teaching in the areas of solidification science, molten metal processing and computational materials science.
