A Century of Peirce-Smith Converting Celebrated at TMS 2009
|
Symposium is One of Nearly 60 Planned for February Conference
The Extraction & Processing Division of TMS has planned a special symposium commemorating the invention of the cylindrical converter for the TMS 2009 Annual Meeting. The International Peirce-Smith Converting Centennial Symposium will address process issues in converting copper and nickel, and include plenary speakers and a panel discussion.
This special symposium is one of nearly 60 symposia planned for the TMS 2009 Annual Meeting, which will be held February 15–19 in San Francisco, California. The conference is now accepting abstract submissions for all symposia in the topical areas of Light Metals; Extraction, Processing, Structure, and Properties; Emerging Materials; and Materials and Society: Energy and Recycling.... Webcast Offers a Sample of Jerry M. Woodall's Plenary Lecture
This year, in honor of the 50-year anniversary of the Electronic Materials Conference (EMC), a special plenary session will be held at the conference that looks at past, present, and future developments in the electronic materials field. Now, all web users are welcome to preview Jerry M. Woodall's plenary on the birth and maturation of III-V heterostructure. Woodall, who is with Purdue University, has recorded a portion of his talk that can be viewed through the 2008 EMC web site. Woodall will be one of three plenary presenters at the June conference. Ralph Dawson of the University of New Mexico and Umesh Mishra of the University of California, Santa Barbara, will also deliver invited talks. The 2008 Electronic Materials Conference will be held June 25–27 on the campus of the University of California, Santa Barbara. Radiation Materials Science

Radiation materials science (RMS) is the materials science of radiation effects. Essentially, it describes the response of materials to bombardment by energetic particles or photons.
RMS is integral to any discussion of new reactors, especially for Generation IV reactors that have more severe service conditions than PWR designs. This webcast focuses on metals and alloys commonly used as structural materials in nuclear power systems. [MORE]
