NIST Standard Reference Materials (SRM) is premier in supporting accurate and compatible measurements by certifying and providing over 1,100 SRMs with well-characterized composition or properties, or both. SRMs are used to perform instrument calibrations as part of overall quality assurance programs, verify the accuracy of specific measurements, and support the development of new measurement methods.

The Standard Reference Data Group provides well-documented numeric data to scientists and engineers for use in technical problem-solving, research, and development. In addition, the Calibration Services are designed to help the makers and users of precision instruments achieve high levels of measurement quality and productivity.
