TMS 2009: Exhibitor Spotlight

NEWS ARTICLE

Exhibitor Spotlight:  THERMO-CALC SOFTWARE
Posted November 17, 2008

Thermo CalcThermo-Calc Software is one of the world’s leading developers of software and databases for calculations involving computational thermodynamics and diffusion controlled simulations.

The software is able to perform thermodynamic calculations for multicomponent systems and calculate properties such as the amounts and compositions of phases formed under equilibrium and metastable equilibrium conditions, activities, driving forces, and thermodynamic properties. Isothermal and isoplethal diagrams can be calculated for multicomponent systems and an advanced Scheil module, which can consider the influence of fast diffusing elements, is also available.

Calculations are based on thermodynamic databases produced by expert evaluation of experimental data. Databases are available for steels, titanium, aluminum, nickel-superalloys, and other materials. Thermo-Calc is able to be called directly from in-house developed software or MatLab due to programming interfaces. DICTRA is used for accurate simulations of diffusion in multi-component alloys. Applications include:

  • Homogenization of alloys
  • Microsegregation during solidification
  • Coarsening of precipitates
  • Welding
