WELCOME TO MS&T'03

Coming to Downtown Chicago in November … the start of something new!

MS&T ’03 has all of the quality programming that we have come to expect at the TMS Fall Meeting and much more. The platform has been designed to accommodate a broader “get-together” that will welcome the participation of our sister society—the Iron & Steel Society (ISS). Collaboration between ISS and TMS has been developed that offers the traditional programming from both societies, as well as a strong menu of jointly organized symposia. The meeting combines the TMS and ASM-MSCTS technical committee-sponsored symposia that you have come to expect at the Fall Meeting, the traditional ISS Mechanical Working and Steel Processing program, and the new cooperatively programmed sessions that provide a uniquely blended focus. This new forum provides broad technical interchanges, increased personal interactions, and a host of new opportunities for all that attend.

Additionally, I want to point out that this event is structured, and there are plans for future participation by other societies. All of the feedback has been heard. There are too many meetings and not enough time or money to attend all of them. It would be nice to have “one-stop-shopping” to supply meeting attendees with quality technical information and professional exchanges. The meetings need to be seamless, with one roof, one program, and one registration. MS&T ’03 is the solution.

The message has been clear, and the event has been designed. The result is an integrated meeting with a jointly organized program, a seamless platform, and boundless networking opportunities, and all at no increase in registration fees. The goal is to provide value to the attendee. MS&T ’03 does that and more!

I would like to welcome all of you to attend MS&T ’03. My goal is to build upon the successful TMS Fall Meeting and ISS Mechanical Working and Steel Processing Conference through interaction that is both exciting and productive, with the result being strong new benefits to their respective constituents. I look forward to seeing you in The Windy City!

Dan Thoma
TMS President

The Iron & Steel Society is pleased to partner with our friends at TMS to host MS&T ‘03, a joint conference representing the future of both associations.

ISS is proud of this partnership and excited about the value it creates for our members. In 2003, this will be the best venue to network with prominent industry leaders and to exchange the highest quality of technical knowledge.

The ISS 45th Mechanical Working and Steel Processing Conference will be enhanced with a new forum that includes the annual TMS Fall Meeting. The tradition of these two long-running conferences will be retained, while the combination of one event will offer attendees more comprehensiveness and appreciation for the full spectrum of metals and materials fabrication, treatment, application and more.

We hope that you’ll plan to take part in this first combined conference November 9–12 at the Hyatt Regency in Chicago!

I look forward to meeting you there.

Bill Barker
ISS President
