04/1 - Back by Popular Demand: The Selected Works of John W. Cahn

Warrendale, PA: A special collection of papers authored by one of the pioneers in the field of materials science has recently been reissued by TMS (The Minerals, Metals, and Materials Society).

The Select Works of John W. Cahn was published in 1998 following a symposium held in his honor and represents a collection of 30 selected papers from his body of work. A Senior Fellow at the Materials Science and Engineering Laboratory of the National Institute of Standards and Technology, Cahn is widely recognized as a founder of modern theory and thought in materials science. The range of his research included kinetics and mechanisms of metallurgical phase changes, surfaces, interfaces, defects, quasicrystals, thermodynamics, and other areas impacting the fundamental understanding of materials science.

Each paper includes a 2-4 page review of the impact and historical perspective of the work written by other leaders in the fields impacted by Cahn. This is an important collection for students, instructors, and scientists interested in materials science.

More information about this and the hundreds of other proceedings volumes and textbooks is available through the TMS Document Center, http://doc.tms.org and through the society’s publications catalog. To request a copy or to learn more, contact the TMS Publications Sales Representative by phone at (724) 776-9000 ext. 270 or by e-mail at publications@tms.org.
