07/13 - TMS Launches New Technical Journal, TMS Letters

Warrendale, PA – It’s now available – a valuable new resource and a distinguished publication venue, TMS Letters is the newest journal in the field of materials science and engineering.

Published by TMS (The Minerals, Metals, and Materials Society), TMS Letters is a unique technical journal that presents cutting-edge research in succinct, informative technical updates. The peer-reviewed journal is available exclusively in on-line format through the TMS Document Center and is accessible free-of-charge to all TMS members as a benefit of membership.

Mixing the traditional conference proceedings concept with the benefits of a periodical, TMS Letters was designed with both the scientist and scholar in mind. TMS Letters is composed entirely of two-page technical updates of research presented at TMS meetings that are not published in any other book or journal.
Papers are submitted and reviewed electronically to minimize the time between presentation and publication of material. Reviewers are experts in each field already well-versed on each topic prior to beginning the review. A final review is performed by TMS Letters editor, Dan Thoma, technical staff member at Los Alamos National Laboratory.

  • Issue 1 of the inaugural volume of TMS Letters was composed of selected papers from the Dislocations symposium held at the 2004 TMS Annual Meeting and Exhibition in Charlotte, NC, March 11-14, 2004.
  • Issue 2 of TMS Letters was composed of papers from the Thermodynamics of Alloys symposium from the 2004 TMS Annual Meeting and Exhibition.
  • Issue 3 contains a mix of papers from several 2004 TMS Annual Meeting symposia, including: Computational Thermodynamics and Phase Transformations; Educational Issues in Transport Phenomena in Materials Processing; Processing, Microstructure, and Properties of Powder-Based Materials; The Roytburd Symposium on Polydomain Structures; and General Abstracts.

Timely, relevant, and rigorously reviewed, TMS Letters papers are available free of charge to TMS members. Nonmember may download individual papers for $15 each or may purchase a complete issue of $50. Subscriptions will be available in 2005.
