07/13 - Popular Magnesium Technology Proceedings Available Online

Warrendale, PA – The first two volumes of the popular Magnesium Technology proceedings series are now available for purchase and download from TMS (The Minerals, Metals, and Materials Society).

Magnesium Technology 2000 and 2001 are proceedings volumes consisting of research presented at the 2000 and 2001 TMS Annual Meetings and Exhibition, held in Nashville and New Orleans respectively. Both volumes were distributed internationally to materials scientists and engineers who work with magnesium, an emerging light metal used in a variety of industries, most notably automotive.

Magnesium Technology 2000 was edited by Howard I. Kaplan (US Magnesium), John Hryn (Argonne National Laboratory), and Byron Clow (International Magnesium Association) and contains 56 papers. These proceedings provide an overview of magnesium production technology, mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, and alloy development. Cosponsored by the Magnesium Association, the symposium was divided into several sessions, including electrolytic technology, thermal reduction/environmental, automotive issues and recycling, alloy development/corrosion, solidification, creep properties/heat treating effects, physical/mechanical properties, and wrought alloys/thixmolding.

Magnesium Technology 2001 was edited by John Hryn (Argonne National Laboratory) and contains 51 papers that further address science and technology issues associated with all aspects of magnesium production and use. The broad scope of this volume covers all aspects of extraction and processing, physical and mechanical properties, alloy development, and applications.

Magnesium Technology 2002, 2003, and 2004 are still available individually as book-and-CD-ROM sets. A sixth volume is planned for 2005.

Papers are available for download in portable document format through the TMS Document Center, http://doc.tms.org. For more information about the Magnesium Technology series, visit the TMS Document Center or contact a TMS Publications Sales Representative at 1-800-759-4867 ext. 270 in the US and Canada or (724
